Relentless Learning And Development Is What This Month’s Growth MVP Practices

Growth MVP is an initiative to recognize specific people on my team who have shown leadership to invest in their own professional or personal growth. Growth is one of our core values at Polar and 91% of our team is here because Growth & Development is important to them. Here is what my team values and how I found out.

Today I am recognizing David Rubinger as our Growth MVP at Polar.

David joined Polar two years ago now and leads our data science practice. Previously working in a government ministry, it has been a breath of fresh air for him to be in a vibrant, fast-paced and energetic culture at Polar. I have personally seen how David has grown as a professional and leader within our team, and am excited to see him continue to invest in himself and those around him.

David’s fingerprints are all over our platform, our tools and our partners, without many realizing it. He is helping improve our optimization algorithms continuously, stretched himself with understanding the inner workings of various modelling techniques and algorithms, building new web applications for better exposing data internally, iterating on partner-facing reports, producing our quarterly industry benchmark reports and even teaching his fellow team members how to play the guitar.

The diversity of responsibilities he has taken on have forced him to learn new hard and soft skills, and his continual focus on learning is admirable. Part of his initiative to grow is seen by always finding ways to improve our solutions and tools, making them more efficient. This means experimenting with new programming languages (Python and SQL as of late), researching new tools, referencing academic papers and textbooks, developing new models and practicing a lot of patience along the way through many iterations.

David has continued to improve his awareness of everything Polar, inside and outside the business, which has given him a strong foundation to further invest in his own growth.
